Jocelyn, Rosalind, Grace, and Tabitha Babbitt

We have four pet goats, rescues through the MSPCA at Nevins Farm. We named them for famous female scientists and engineers:

  • Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discovered Pulsars but her supervisor got the Nobel Prize
  • Rosalind Franklin, who did X-Ray crystallography work that was fundamental to discovering the structure of DNA, but died before the Nobel Prize was awarded and didn’t receive full credit in Watson’s book.
  • Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, pioneer computer scientist
  • Tabitha Babbit, a Shaker who invented the circular saw.

But I noticed that if you put their names together it was almost poetry, so I wrote them a song.
