Played in standard, no capo.
This wasn’t directly inspired by Newtown CT. Instead it was the result of two influences
- a Facebook friend who’s response to Newtown was to insist that any restrictions on guns were unreasonable because he always did right thing with his.
- the all too common news stories, seemingly coming once a day, about children killed by guns they find lying around at their parents/grandparents/friends houses. I saw a statistic the other day: in America there are over 750 emergency room visits a year due to children being accidentally injured by firearms; and over 500 deaths.
I started to wonder how someone would feel who had been responsible for one of those guns being available.
I also wanted to experiment with non-obvious rhythms and rhyme schemes.
